By the waters of bablyon talks about the main character goes on the journey to New York, the place of the dead and the Gods. The place of the Gods were forbidden to travel to, the east are not for people to go to and it was said that the ground burns forever.
The main character faced huge internal conflict. The pressure in the start of the story by his father was quite great as he kept on telling him it is forbidden and you shall not let your dreams are you. Later on he decided to go on to the place of the gods, regarding the conssequences on his soul or the pressure around him. Death in the place of gods created a big conflict to his mind, he tried to tell himself that he saw enough but his inner mind wouldn't beleive that and he proceeded. The tales also created a great conflict in his mind about the things that is in there.
The external conflict are the things around the city of the Gods. The city of the gods had radiation before but as time passes, the radiation passed and the main character did not feel the radiation. The forest people was a great external conflict as they might kill him and stop his journey. The lake was strong, the dogs in the city is fierce and the spirits that he said is around him. He believed that his the son of a priest and no harm can hunt him, the belief helped him out of troubles and his faith was his ultimate power.
The main character faced alot of internal conflict as the thoughts of spirit and death troubles him much. The further he gets in the city he expierences more and more of the place of the gods and he learns how to avoid danger such as using a door.
